House For Duty

We seek an inspiring and creative minister who will share and support the work of strengthened discipleship, worship and pastoral and prayerful engagement. Working with the incumbent and us as we create new connections and expressions of everyday faith in our communities.

We are three parishes (four churches) in two benefices that effectively work as a single benefice. Barrow-upon-Soar is a large village with many amenities. Prestwold, and Wymeswold are rural parishes, with much smaller populations. You will need be able to manage your time effectively in the context of ministry in a multi-parish collective.

You may be an ordained or lay minister. The post is for 2½ days per week.

Our four churches are:

  • Holy Trinity, Barrow-upon-Soar, in a village with a population of 6,500 and two schools (primary and secondary)
  • St. Mary’s, Walton on the Wolds, in a village of less than 300 inhabitants
  • St. Andrews, Prestwold, with nearly 1,700 people spread over four villages and a Primary School in Burton-on-the-Wolds
  • St. Mary’s Wymeswold, with a population of 1,300 and a primary school

Our ministry follows a central Anglican tradition, but with an openness to a variety of forms of worship, including less formal services for particular occasions or groups within our com-munity. We value preaching and forms of worship that will reach out to those less familiar with the more traditional practices that are the staple of the regular congregation. Although similar in the approach to worship, each church has its own distinct style.

Our commitment to you will be:

  • We will listen to your vision for how you will bring God’s message to our communities
  • We, the laity, will give prayerful and practical sup-port to priestly ministry
  • We will endeavour to recruit a Priest-in-Charge to lead the ministry across the benefices
  • We will provide lay ministers to regularly share leadership of services according to your direction
  • You will be able to rely on dedicated people working in groups to provide many church-based activities throughout the parishes
  • We are aware of the challenges of ministering to three different parishes and we will offer our sup-port to help you achieve a good work/life balance; we understand that you cannot be everywhere at once

Please see Parish Profile.

You will have use of the vicarage at Wymeswold, which is a detached 4-bedroom house in good structural condition, built in 1986. It is near to the centre of the village opposite to St. Mary’s Church. The village has a shop, an outreach Post Office, and three public houses.

We are, however, open to consider alternative arrangements and would welcome applications from clergy couples.
