Christ Church is an eclectic and parochial church centrally located in Winchester with a membership of around 800 and a large staff team. We are truly multi-generational with a strong profile of young families and students with an increasing number of seniors. There is a high premium on biblical teaching and spirit filled worship which includes both traditional and contemporary styles.

Our vison and priorities:

Our vision is to become more like Jesus through a deep love for His word and Spirit, strengthened by a sense of community and belonging, built up, equipped and released to serve God in our city, nation and the wider world. As a designated Resource Church, we are committed to the visionary aims of the Winchester diocese and are strategically important in helping to support and deliver them. We are at the start of this journey.

The visit and interviews are now arranged for 25-26 April (Easter Week).

The closing date is 11.59pm Wednesday 13 March.

Within the Deanery we belong to a cluster of churches – a partnership to which we are committed. Whilst our parish boundary is in close proximity to the local prison, hospital and university, our cluster churches cover a wider demographic which include less privileged and deprived areas.

During the week our congregation can be found in schools and colleges, in busy family lives and active retirement. There is strong representation across a broad range of medical, social care and teaching professions. Others have demanding lives in business and commerce, many travelling to London or further afield.

As well as a talented staff team, over 300 of our core congregation enthusiastically and regularly volunteer, serving in their particular areas of ministry. We have many groups and courses running throughout the year, spanning across the generations, and an ever-ambitious youth and children’s ministry. A refreshed small group structure supported by mature Christians as well as the introduction of Anna Chaplains for our elderly members, has begun to strengthen our pastoral support.

We want to be alive and responsive to the needs of the world around us, in Winchester, the UK and abroad and have a strong evangelistic heart for our own front lines – wherever they may be.

We belong to a network of ‘Churches Together in Winchester,’ and as part of the Deanery church cluster, Christ Church supports many ministries across the city as well as being committed to the visionary aims of Winchester Diocese - aimed at strategic growth. Globally, we have partnerships with Kalerwe and Kisoro in Uganda

We are looking for a new vicar who is an inspiring, dynamic and strategic leader, who will sharpen and implement our vision and shape Christ Church to respond to the changing needs of our city, diocese and beyond.

  • Firmly rooted in and a preacher of the word
  • Led and inspired by the Holy Spirit
  • A confident, strategic and discerning leader
  • Faithful and committed to prayer
  • A community builder and pastorally sensitive
  • Able to train, equip and send out
  • An excellent communicator
