Full Stipend

The enthusiastic and welcoming congregations of the joint Benefice of St Andrew's Kirk Ella and St Luke's Willerby in the East Riding of Yorkshire are seeking an Associate Vicar to serve the two parishes but with particular responsibility for St Luke’s.

Our prayer is to appoint a classical evangelical who can help us realise Christ’s vision for the Benefice over the coming years, and a collaborative leader who will help our two churches work more effectively together.

We are eager to build on a legacy of years of faithful Bible teaching by building a united community of love and service, and to reach out to our local community more effectively with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are keen to capitalise on our wide variety of practical and spiritual gifts and for our congregations to come to greater maturity as Christian disciples.

We are looking for a man who is:

  • an ordained priest in the Church of England who has completed IME 4-7 and is designated as incumbent status.
  • alive with a passion and love for our Lord Jesus who makes a priority of the ministry of prayer and the word.
  • able to set a positive example as a godly leader who has been powerfully impacted by the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • an inspiring preacher and expository Bible teacher able to connect with the mature and the newcomer alike.
  • capable of showing clear evidence of significant and effective leadership within a church setting.

We think that God's chosen applicant will be:

  • a winsome and gracious leader who can enable others and work towards the collaboration of the two churches.
  • a wise and approachable team player.
  • a people person, able to walk with others through personal and corporate changes.
  • someone who can successfully negotiate change where necessary and inspire the church towards greater faithfulness to Christ
  • someone with demonstrable passion for children’s and families’ ministries.

Enhanced DBS clearance is required

The Benefice

St Andrew's Kirk Ella is a large evangelical church, and the neighbouring church of St Luke's, Willerby, has an enthusiastic and committed core of members sharing a similar evangelical tradition. Both churches have good community links. St Andrews has a staff team that includes a Church Administrator, a Children and Families worker and a Ministry Apprentice, and the churches share the Rector.

The Diocese of York

The Diocese of York takes in much of North and East Yorkshire, an area which includes the cities of York and Hull, as well as Middlesbrough and Selby, two National Parks, and the incomparable Yorkshire coast. We are led and guided in our faith and work by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu. York Minster is our principal church.

Our vision is to be a family of Generous Churches Making and Nurturing Disciples, and we are currently in a process of strategy development to meet this vision through goals to Reach, Grow and Sustain: to reach those we currently don’t; to grow in discipleship, influence and numbers; underpinned by achieving sustainable finances.

Unfortunately it is not always straightforward for clergy from overseas to be appointed to posts in the Church of England. The policy of the UK Border Agency is that normally the organisation making an appointment has been able to prove that it is impossible to appoint a person who is a national of a European Economic Area country, before a visa giving permission to work will be issued to a person who comes from elsewhere.
