As Digital Officer (A Church Near You), you will offer support and shape the work of 'A Church Near You', in service of the Digital Team’s priorities of: evangelism, discipleship and promotion of the common good.

You will be joining a multi-award winning Digital Team that has led on transforming the Church’s national websites that now receive 45 million page views per year; developed campaigns at Christmas, Lent and other key periods that engage millions; run training courses and provided digital resources that have enabled thousands of churches to get the most from the web and social media.

You will offer support and shape the work of 'A Church Near You' in service of the Digital Team’s priorities of: evangelism, discipleship and promotion of the common good.

You will grow the platform and see an increase in churches adopting their pages and the public using the site to find a local church, including for key Christian festivals and life events.

With help desk and customer service experience, you will have a confident and friendly telephone manner and proven experience of writing web copy and supporting the management of social media accounts. With excellent IT skills and a basic knowledge of project management tools, you will be confident promoting the Church of England in the digital public square.

The Role

  • Monitoring the A Church Near You support platform ZenDesk, which receives hundreds of tickets from both editors and the public each month. Each query must be dealt with professionally and in good time to help editors to use the site efficiently
  • Liaising with the Senior Digital Communications Manager and the web agency to deal professionally and in good time with issues identified on the platform
  • Updating, monitoring and maintenance of the information on the Church of England’s national website and social media channels on ACNY.
  • Management of the ACNY Resource Hub, sourcing good quality pictures, videos and visual imagery for the Hub for editors to use
  • Writing clear, simple and concise copy for A Church Near You across a variety of platforms
  • Providing digital support for events to champion A Church Near You, particularly the Labs Learning training and Roadshows
  • Booking development work sprints with the web agency and working with the Senior Digital Communications Manager to identify development priorities for A Church Near You
  • Using analytics, insights and editor surveys to ensure the platform continues to develop with the expectations of a range of users and personas
  • Responsible for regular communication with A Church Near You editors through monthly Mailchimp emails (currently 16,300 people) and updating the Trello board

Staff Management and Supervision

  • No line management but you will be required to work with agencies and external support staff

The Requirements

Essential

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Help desk experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Photographic skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic project management experience
  • Ability to write clearly without mistakes
  • Confident and friendly telephone manner
  • Proven experience of writing web copy and supporting the management of social media accounts
  • Awareness of different media outlets available to the Church
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and other industry standard tools, such as Mailchimp, Trello and Favro or other project management tools.

Circumstances:

  • Able to travel across the country to produce content from different dioceses, churches and other Church of England organisations.
