Priest in Charge of Hull Minster.


HULL MINSTER sits at the heart of our city and combines a vibrant parish life with a civic ministry larger than some cathedrals. As a Minster we seek to reach out across the city whilst retaining a particular concern for our deprived parish and our congregations reflect this breadth.

We are in the third major phase of an extensive renovation of our building. The work so far has created one of the most attractive event venues in the city and enables our wide breadth of worship styles to flourish.

All of this requires a priest who can provide clear and effective organisational leadership, including the oversight of our large team of employees and volunteers, and an understanding of the financial demands upon us.

  • To establish a strategic approach to the leadership and oversight of the church
  • To bring an expectancy that God will further grow the church and put in place measures that encourage this to occur
  • To set in place good relationships and structures that enable you to be an effective leader of leaders, of both paid and voluntary staff
  • To engage meaningfully with the commercial and financial aspects of the life of the Minster, offering insights and oversight to the Operational Team
  • To relate to the wide range of people that engage with the Minster, showing warmth and welcome
  • To establish good links with the wider City and contribute to the civic role of the Minster
  • To identify, and agree with the PCC, how best to contribute to the ongoing building project and the proposed organ and choral development
  • To create a Role Description for the new Associate post and lead the recruitment process for the post
  • To deepen links with St Mary’s Lowgate and establish a plan for taking on oversight of the parish and establishing a strategy for ministry to the City Centre
  • To be an effective contributor to the life of the Deanery

  • Ready to embrace complexity given the variety of the Minster’s life
  • An effective contributor to the life of the Deanery

God has taken us on a remarkable journey in recent years and we are looking for a new Minister who believes that even greater things lie ahead!

Unfortunately it is not always straightforward for clergy from overseas to be appointed to posts in the Church of England. The policy of the UK Border Agency is that normally the organisation making an appointment has been able to prove that it is impossible to appoint a person who is a national of a European Economic Area country, before a visa giving permission to work will be issued to a person who comes from elsewhere.
