Come and join us – we live by the coast in glorious countryside, just north of Scarborough and all in ‘God’s own county’! Both churches are immersed in their communities and very committed to being the church for their village, we are seeking someone who understands rural life and will share this commitment with us.
The last 12 months has seen the parishes pro-actively adopting change and new approaches. St Mary’s in Cloughton have emerging plans to re-develop the church interior so that it becomes a hub for greater congregational and community use. St Hilda’s at Ravenscar nearly closed recently but local people reacted very positively and have started attending the church, with a regular congregation of 15 at their monthly Service. Both parishes have contributed to a review of ministry provision which led to the creation of a new benefice of Cloughton & Ravenscar, from two larger existing benefices; currently they are in separate benefices. These wider changes have the support of all six PCCs that are affected and we are seeking to appoint a Priest in Charge now, with the wider scheme expected to come into effect in late 2020. The new Minister will play a significant part in shaping the next stage of the life of these two parishes.
We are looking for a collaborative Minister who will enjoy being part of the effective North Scarborough Group Ministry which enables the sharing of resources and insights across three benefices. It is a review of the Group’s Ministry which has led to the creation of this new post to enable more resources to be focussed on the leading and direct oversight of the churches. Our new Minister will help us to shape this next stage of our life together.

Unfortunately it is not always straightforward for clergy from overseas to be appointed to posts in the Church of England. The policy of the UK Border Agency is that normally the organisation making an appointment has been able to prove that it is impossible to appoint a person who is a national of a European Economic Area country, before a visa giving permission to work will be issued to a person who comes from elsewhere.
This appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS Check.
