Fawkham & Hartley
Clergy

Fawkham and Hartley is a semi-rural community located south of the A2, North of the M20 and a few miles east of the M25, in the DA3 postcode area. We are part of the Rural North West Kent (RNWK) Group of Churches. The RNWK Group also includes the Parishes of Longfield, Ash and Ridley. Together, the Group serves a population of 12000. Fawkham and Hartley has a population of just under 6000. Fawkham and Hartley comprises 2 medieval church buildings and one 1960s church centre, complimented by the three other historic church buildings in the RNWK Group. Ministry is shared between our clergy, who are supported by a dedicated and talented team of 10 lay ministers. Between 2014-2017, we pioneered the idea of sharing in the formation of a Group Curate.

The Bishop of Rochester seeks to appoint a Priest-in-Charge for our Parish who will work with the other clergy in the RNWK Group. As a Group, we already have many joint initiatives including a growing Messy Church, a Youth Group, active women’s and men’s fellowships and a Bible Study group. We are committed to developing a shared ‘Called to Grow’ plan as part of the Diocese of Rochester’s ‘Called Together’ framework.

The PCC have identified a number of key areas

  • It is important that our new priest is committed to working collaboratively as part of the RNWK Group Ministry Team and willing to explore new ways of sharing resources, mission and ministry.
  • We would like to continue to nurture the faith of our congregation and reach out to more residents in our community, young and old, and share with them the love of God.
  • We hope that the person appointed to this post would be able to make a positive contribution to the Group’s ‘Called to Grow’ plan. This is at an early stage of development and there is plenty of room for fresh ideas!
  • We would describe our church tradition as central, liberal and inclusive. In common with the rest of the Group, our clergy and lay ministers robe for the vast majority of services.

We would like to hear from you if you are:

  • an approachable and encouraging leader.
  • a people person, able to relate to all ages and backgrounds.
  • someone who can lead and share joyfully, enthusiastically and lovingly.
  • able to complement the skills of our current Group clergy.
  • To be able to support all members of our congregation and also those within the wider community.
