The Diocese of Leeds wishes to recruit a Finance Assistant that will support the Finance Supervisor and Finance Manager in the smooth running of the team.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fees

  • Print out and organise Fees forms from Outlook Inbox
  • Input and scan Fees forms into the purchase ledger
  • Raise purchase orders for Fees forms for 'Other' clergy eg retired clergy
  • Match Fees forms from ‘Other’ clergy to orders, or chase up paperwork
  • Raise sales invoices to Funeral Directors and Parishes for Fees forms

Purchase Ledger

  • Distribute invoices for approval to budget holders
  • Enter approved invoices into the purchase ledger
  • Review and chase invoices overdue for approval
  • Support and undertake preparation and production of payment runs
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve supplier queries as required

Sales Ledger

  • Raise adhoc, monthly and quarterly sales invoices
  • Review unallocated sales ledger payments
  • Send statements out to customers

Nominal Bank Account Maintenance

  • Transaction Processing and Reconciliation
  • Administer and process the daily banking
  • Upload or post bank transactions into the accounting systems
  • Prepare bank reconciliations

Skills, knowledge and aptitudes

The Finance Assistant should be able to provide evidence of the following:

  • good IT skills and competent in the use of Microsoft Office, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • experience of coding and processing invoices
  • accuracy in handling numerical data
  • good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • confidence in dealing with telephone queries
  • the ability to manage a varied work load efficiently and flexibly to prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines
  • ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and other contacts.

Qualifications, Training and Experience

The Finance Assistant should have:

  • 5 GSCE’s (or equivalent) including English and Maths at grade C or above (9-4).

The Diocese of Leeds came into existence at Easter 2014 following the dissolution of the former dioceses of Bradford, Ripon & Leeds, and Wakefield. It covers the whole of West Yorkshire, the western part of North Yorkshire, and small parts of South Yorkshire, Lancashire, and County Durham. The diocese has 656 church buildings, Housing Stock of approximately 500 properties as well as glebe, farming and mineral interests. Within the Diocese there are 242 schools.
