This is a new rural benefice comprising three churches set amidst the stunning natural beauty of the Ribble Valley. The churches are central tradition or gently Catholic with a love for the Eucharist. The new priest will need to establish the benefice and develop a relationship-based, pastoral ministry, seeking to establish a presence in all the villages that the Parishes serve.

A video showing the wonderful opportunities available in this benefice can be viewed here. Please note the proposal for the union of these three churches is currently at consultation stage.

  • To reflect on the implications of Vision 2026 in this heavily rural setting and seek to grow the congregations spiritually and numerically .
  • To encourage the three churches to support one another, co-operate more closely and pray together as a new benefice is formed
  • To build a strong pastoral ministry, developing good relationships with the inhabitants of all the villages in the benefice, getting involved in local activities and seeking to become a well-known figure in each of the communities
  • To foster the good link with the two church schools and also to develop ministry in the community schools in Gisburn and Bolton by Bowland
  • To develop the prayer and worshipping life of the churches with a particular concern for helping new people come to faith
  • To build up the capacity and confidence of laypeople in the churches and find a new generation of people to take up responsibilities
  • To be especially aware of the needs of the people of Gisburn who have had a disturbed pattern of ministry compounded by the sudden death of their last priest

We seek a priest who:

  • Is firmly rooted in prayer and who will teach us to pray more deeply.
  • Is a gifted and confident pastor, able to build relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Can develop our worshipping life whilst honouring the Eucharistic traditions of the churches
  • Is confident in ministry to schools and at ease with the young and their families
  • Has a strong commitment to rural ministry
