The Church Commissioners manage a diverse investment fund of over £8 billion of assets. Our investment objective is to generate a total return averaging RPI +5% per annum over the long term, and our returns are used to support the mission and ministry of the Church of England This is a new role to support the highly skilled and high performing Investment team. The team’s current headcount is 47 and it is expected to grow over 12-24 months to around 65.

This is a new opportunity for an experienced HR Business Partner to join our Investment team responsible for managing over £8 billion of assets to support the work and mission of the Church of England across the country.

You will provide best practice HR business partner support and advice to the Investment team including recruitment, developing appropriate reward policies, leadership development and HR expertise to ensure the we attract, engage and retain the best talent in line with our culture.

The Role :

  • Deliver a proactive and consistent HR service, building good working relationships with all stakeholders. Provide sound and commercial advice on employment, performance management and talent management
  • Develop and deliver the recruitment strategy, ensuring hiring leaders are supported and equipped with the necessary skills and tools to be effective
  • Lead the inclusion agenda and gender pay matters, seeking opportunities that contribute to the effectiveness of the Investment team and that demonstrate best practice
  • Provide expertise on reward strategies reflecting our culture and values and work with the Remuneration Committee to agree and implement solutions
  • Coach and develop the Investment team leaders, managing and mitigating people related risks to ensure retention of key employees. Develop leadership succession plans, manage capability and support high performance
  • Develop and deliver strategies to support the team to achieve its full potential through coaching, mentoring and training plans, acting as the source of expertise on these and well-being matters
  • Work with senior management to ensure that the required skills are available at Trustee and Board level
  • Supporting the identification, research and presentation of proposals to governance committees, working with managers implement these within the business unit
  • Analyse data and management information to ensure a deep understanding of the business unit and its people, making evidence-based decisions. Monitor KPI’s for effectiveness and value
  • Contribute to and support the wider HR team where requested, working and leading on projects as the role allows

The Requirements :

Essential

Knowledge/Experience

  • Recent senior HR Business Partner ideally with experience in the Investment sector
  • Proven track record in delivering high quality HR support to a sophisticated and high performing client group, building strong relationships at all levels
  • Extensive knowledge of good HR practice and employment law
  • Experience of managing HR projects
  • Knowledge of reward systems and industry best practice

Skills/Aptitudes

  • Strong consultancy, partnership and relationship building skills
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Able to develop strategic people plans for the business area, implement practical solutions and influence senior leaders
  • Professional, enthusiastic and effective team player
  • Self-motivated with initiative and the necessary drive to deliver results
  • A self-starter with a positive work ethic

Qualifications/Training

  • MCIPD qualified or equivalent and demonstrable significant senior HR experience
