Tonbridge
Clergy

Would you like to use your leadership and spiritual gifts in the context of a large Anglican Parish church with many community and civic links?

You will share in the leadership of the Parish of St Peter and St Paul with the incumbent and have specific responsibility for the outreach and growth of St Philips church within the Parish.

We will provide an attractively sized house and a supportive, friendly staff team for you to work alongside. We are keen to know you have had experience of ordained leadership and are willing to be stretched further to see our Parish family be a blessing to the community of Tonbridge we seek to serve.

We are four churches, St Peter and St Paul's, St Andrew's, St Philip's and St Saviour's. Each has its own style and we are united as one Parish family.

  • by a love for the Bible and a desire to live faithfully according to its teaching;
  • by prayer as we rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and inspire our life together;
  • in working together to serve the church family, the people of our parish and the town of Tonbridge, and our various mission partner around the world;
  • to provide oversight of the congregation that meets at St Philip’s Church who are keen to have a leader who “takes the reins”, grows the congregational life and builds on their aspiration for increased local community engagement.
  • lead the Parish and the congregation of St Philips in a focused mission task to engage with the community in North Tonbridge, particularly the Trench Road estate. This could build on existing good ecumenical and local council relationships to see this occur.
  • to assist the Vicar and Churchwardens with the line-management of administrative staff and the youth and children’s worker. All of which have a current operational focus to serve the local community.
  • to lead on whole Parish programmes of learning such as integrating newcomers and regular members in the life of discipleship. We have increasing visitors from our local communities and would like to see these grow.
  • to exercise their own particular gifts and skills, by consultation, for the benefit of the whole Parish, community and wider church.

We are seeking a leader who:

  • is a Bible teacher who can encourage and inspire others in the study of the Scriptures;
  • is servant-hearted and pastorally sensitive;
  • is secure and able to work collaboratively with lay and ordained leaders.
  • can enable the spiritual growth of others;
  • enjoys the flexibility of working across a large Parish of congregations and networks who have a variety of styles;
  • as a ‘people person’ who can relate and communicate effectively with members of the local community. They should enjoy relating to council and community leaders to form greater partnerships as well as those who are resident in the North Tonbridge area around St Philip’s Church.
